WIP: Shoulder Grazing Top & Pants

Off the Shoulder Dress | F21 (worn as top)
Grey Jeggings | H&M
Tan Booties | No Brand
Cashmere Scarf | Burberry

I am my very own work in progress. I want to honestly be body positive so the first step is to put myself in situations I find uncomfortable. It's like the first time I put on makeup. It looked foreign to me. Unnatural almost. Most of all, I thought I looked hideous! I didn't touch makeup until years later. I eased in slowly with tinted lip balm then slowly transitioned to eye liner and finally, a little blush, bronzer, and a cat eye with some eye shadow.

The point of the story is I need to slowly ease myself into the idea of pants. I'm not used to seeing myself in pants. And that's why I promised myself more pant-centric outfits.

So here is my second official pant related outfit of the season! I paired tan booties (which I love) and a new off-the-shoulder dress from F21 that I'm using as a top. I topped it off with my Burberry cashmere scarf to keep warm since mornings are still quite brisk!

1 Sweater Dress | 3 Ways

Like I said in yesterday's post, I have a few rules for myself when I go shopping. I sit on an item for a week or two to ensure I love it (& still remember it!). I also review my monthly budget using the Mint app. Lastly, I imagine a minimum of 3 new outfits using pieces already found in my closet. To show you what I mean, I've taken a simple black sweater dress aka my winter LBD, and styled it 3 ways for the cold weather.

I thought this outfit was perfect for a warmer winter day when you have a special dinner or date ;) It's cozy, but still girly with the full skater skirt. What I love about this concept is any girl can take this outfit and make it their own. Choose a different color sweater, a different skirt length, or different accessories to make it comfortable for herself.

Scarf | Burberry (gift)
Sweater Dress | Juicy Couture
Gold Skirt | Boutique (Shanghai)
Gold Bangle | Family heirloom
Silver Heels | BCBG

I'm not the type to reach for jeans on a casual day, but I can't help but love this look. It's casual; it's comfortable; it's easy to recreate, and completely practical. The puffer jacket adds warmth on colder days, and helps to hide any holiday weight gain you haven't lost at the gym yet! To make it a "me" outfit, I added a feminine touch via the small purse and tucked the jeans under the heel strap. It's my favorite combo, feminine but boyish....
...if that even makes sense.

Down Vest | New Balance
Sweater Dress | Juicy Couture
Ripped Jeans | Asos Petite
Gold Necklace | Thrifted
Black Purse | Boutique (Shanghai)
Heels | Schutz

The last question I ask myself before every purchase is 'can I style this for a work outfit?' 75% of my wardrobe is based off of this question since 5 days of the week are spent in the office. I won't buy something I can't wear 70% of the year; that's ridiculous! So to make this sweater dress more work appropriate, I add opaque tights, knee high boots, a blazer, and my new favorite go-to bag in a beautiful neutral.

Cropped Blazer | Walter Baker
Sweater Dress | Juicy Couture
Tights | Uniqlo Heattech
Suede Boots | Steve Madden
Spike Necklace | BaubleBar
Purse | Coach

What d'ya think? Should I do more outfit remixes?

I couldn't stop laughing when I saw these photos. It looks like I'm some crazy lady obsessed with trash cans!

I was thinking about retaking them, but then all the shivering, shuddering and near death calls would have been for nothing! So I decided to show you the photos (where it's not obvious I'm on the verge of frost bite hahah).

I always contemplate a buy for a week (or a month sometimes!) A good 50% of the time, I experience hypothetical buyer's remorse and decide against the purchase. Luckily for you, I didn't feel that way about this warm sweater, mostly because it keeps the heat in and cold out. Since it was a sweater dress, I was able to keep my bum warm too. Unfortunately, bare legs tends to make you feel ridiculously cold so I still ended up freezing.

The reason I bring up my shopping habits is because one of my prerequisites for buying anything is to imagine 3-5 outfits with the potential purchase using only items from my closet. That's exactly what I did so if you want to see how I styled this sweater dress 3 ways, check it out here!

Pink Thrills - I will not tell lies

Sweater / Thrifted
Salmon skirt / Thrifted
Scarf / Burbery (gift)
Heels / BCBG Paris
Ok, this will be a short post, but only because I am prepping some awesome posts for the weeks leading up to Christmas. Be prepared to be bombarded! :X

I started thinking about what I should do for my secret santa. My 'research' quickly snowballed into "I could totally make that" or "that's an awesome gift; everyone should know about it." So now I have a ton of recipes and DIYs coming up on the blog to help you with gifts for your coworkers or a secret santa :) plus it's just super fun to make, because I'm a weirdo that likes to spending time and money giving presents. Santa, are we somehow related? Are you, by any chance, Taiwanese on any side of your family?

Also, on a totally random and dorky note, my friend pointed out this outfit makes her think of Umbridge. That is one person I'd rather not be related to haha

Somehow I was still able to smile that day despite freezing my butt off in 30 degree weather.

$100 Budgetnista Challenge

I have the chance to collaborate with some amazing ladies, one of which is Joua of Joua to the Rescue (go on over to read my interview :X )! She's an amazing writer who you might know from Fashion Odds Magazine. She put together a fun challenge: the Budgetnista Challenge. A few bloggers were asked to put together an outfit (including shoes, eek!) that cost below $100. We were allowed to borrow, thrift, but not steal, because we do not condone that. If you want to know how much this all costs, then stop by Joua's site to find out! :)

Hat / Nordstrom
Top / Talbots (thrifted)
Scarf / Burberry (gifted by JerseyGirlTexanHeart <3)
Clutch / DIY (tutorial here)
Pants / Ann Taylor (borrowed)
Boots / Boutique in China

I decided to mix a few things: something new, something old, and something blue!
This challenge gave me the opportunity/excuse to invest in a wide brimmed hat and somehow when I threw it with my favorite scarf, it gave a western feel that I've never thought I could channel! I looked in the mirror and surprised myself.

These are the moments I blog for. The moments where I learn something new about myself. Things I might never have learned if it weren't for this blog pushing me to do more. To challenge myself.

This is the only shot I took in this park, before I relocated (I was not satisfied with the lack of red/orange/yellow leaves on the trees! The whole park was still green! It just didn't feel like spring).
