Vest + Stripes | Society Hotel

Grey Striped Button Down | Asos
Blue Vest | Urban Outfitters
Wool Skirt  | J. Crew, thrifted

If you haven't seen yet, I've been posting on Instagram from Portland, Oregon this past weekend. I had so much fun attending the manfriend's family wedding at the Sentinel.

We stayed an extra two days to try our hand at being hipsters (we were terrible, btw). BUT I loved the convenience of getting around Portland. We took the Trimet, the buses or walked around on foot.

I visited some famous places like Powell's City of Books (and bought two books!), Stumptown Coffee Roasters (twice), and Deschutes Brewery ($10 for a flight of 6 beers). Despite all the sightseeing, I dressed pretty comfortably throughout the weekend with outfits like this one (sans heels). We stayed at the Society Hotel which had a beautiful rooftop, which is where these photos were taken. It had beautiful views of Portland, especially magical at night.

Nautical Nonsense - Navy Outfit

Sky Blue Crop Top | Thrifted
Striped Jersey Skirt | Ann Taylor
Navy Blue Blazer with Piping | Boutique in Japan
Cat Eye Sunglasses | Kate Spade

Sorry for no update last week! The manfriend and I were both terribly sick and weather didn't permit us to get better or take photos. This weekend we didn't have better luck, but I refused to go postless this week and took these in the rain!

I always put together outfits for my daily wear that I deem not photo worthy, but then someone compliments me at work and asks how I put together an outfit, and it makes me realize sometimes the best outfits are the most basic and comfortable. Who said basic was bad??

The only downside to this outfit is the constant replay of the Spongebob Squarepants theme song in my head, because of the sailor inspired outfit. "If nautical nonsense be something ya wish, SPONGE BOB SQUARE PANTS!"

By the way, I saw this door, and was like if I ever open up my own bake shop, this is how I will greet customers while screaming "Welcome to my shop!"

Memorial Day Travel Outfit

Denim Crop Jacket | Thrifted
White Eyelet Shift | J. Crew
Olivia Bow T-Strap Pump |
Ssh-oes
Bowler Hat | Souvenir from Japan
Cat Eye Sunglasses | Kate Spade

Just when you thought I was done with denim, the love affair continues!

It's true love. I try to stay away and try something new, but a classic is a classic. Can never stay away for too long without feeling the need to show my denim some love.

With 90+ degree weather, this outfit was perfect. The white shift gave me room to breathe and not die under the beating hot sun, while the jacket provided warmth during the cool evenings.

It's such a simple outfit, but I am so in love with it. I've already worn this outfit twice the past 10 days. Someone stop this madness!!

Breezy Silk & Artwork Pencil Skirt

Orange Sleeveless Top | Thrifted
Painted Pencil Skirt | Gift
Olivia Bow T-Strap Pump | Ssh-oes

I look at my closet these days and just have the urge to throw out all the black, grey, and navy blue clothing and buy a whole new wardrobe of pastels, florals, and bright gem colors!

Other than the ridiculous amount of money wasted, I also know I would want those clothes back once winter returns in November. So a girl will dream until then (and bargain hunt for some pretty pieces that I can mix with my monochrome staples.

I literally went through my closet, and pulled the brightest items I had. Voila! This outfit. The soft silk top is perfect for breezy summer days, plus the pencil skirt, and I'm ready to battle my office AC and the sunny 80 degree weather during lunch! Bring it!

And if you bet I'd wear something denim again, I think you owe me 10 bucks :P

That 70s (Fashion) Show

Denim Dress | Thrifted
Brown Pleated Skirt | Thrifted
Strappy Heels | Charles David
Woven Suede Scarf | Guess (old)

With my recent denim binge and 70s inspired outfits, I think I should honestly consider renaming this blog to That 70s Fashion Show.

If I had planned all these jean/denim related outfits, I could have made next month "June Jeans" or made a series called "Denim Days."

This outfit is definitely more retro than modern with so many thrifted items. I especially love this skirt, because of how well it fits on me like as if I had it tailor made to my measurements. So well made, that the belt is purely for decoration!

Now for the funny part: let's make a bet. Who thinks I'll be wearing something denim related next week?!

70s Retro Denim Skirt Outfit

Lace Dress | Thrifted
Denim Skirt | Asos
Lucite Heels | L.A.M.B.
Cat Eye Sunglasses | Kate Spade

I love thrifted clothing, but I am really loving this retro 70s vibe that recently cropped up in the fashion world.

So I'm consciously pairing new items with thrifted items to create retro/vintage looks, and it's a bunch of fun. If you're just getting into thrifting, this is a great way to test the waters. Take an outfit you'd normally wear and replace one item with a thrifted item. It'll make thrifting fit into your wardrobe so much more easily!

This outfit is a great example. I wore a whole new outfit, but switched a new tank in for a thrifted dress worn as a top, and voila! Spring friendly outfit! It's completely modern with a retro (thrifted) twist.

This would have made the perfect debut album cover to my Indie career in the early 90s.
Just need to learn how to sing on pitch, play the guitar, write music, oh and go back in time 20 years.
